Hicksville Water District Warns About False Water Quality Claims

January 27, 2010

The Hicksville Water District (HWD) today warned residents to be aware of false and misleading statements and claims recently made about Long Island water quality. A certain local organization has been leaving solicitous door tags and flyers with area residents which offer free water testing. The promotional materials contain misleading information which may alarm uninformed residents. While the Hicksville Water District cannot forbid the company from continuing its marketing ploys and erroneous claims, the District has made it clear that the water coming from its wells is 100% safe and free of harmful chemicals. In keeping with New York State Law, the HWD tests water quality annually and releases a report to the community (by mail and web) each May.

Flyers from this local company claim, “municipal water treatment today is essentially the same it was over 100 years ago,” a statement that could not be further from the truth. In fact, the Hicksville Water District has significantly and continually upgrades all of its wells and treatment facilities with state-of-the-art technology to filter out ALL harmful levels of synthetic chemicals.

“As a loyal, community-minded public service, HWD ensures that local water is held to the highest quality standards and continually meets or exceeds NYS standards for water quality. All of our water is tested by a third party, and all results are available on our website at www.hicksvillewater.org,” Chairman Nicholas Bridgandi reminds residents.
